Sarah Lorraine Machaj Position: Year 5 Teacher

Lorraine is from a small town near Manchester, England but spent her early childhood in Peru and Venezuela before completing her schooling in the United Kingdom. Having a global perspective was always important in Lorraine’s own education and being one of the first to complete an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in the UK, she decided to study International Relations with French at the University of Warwick before discovering her passion for teaching. Her career as an English language teacher, coordinator and senior leader took her to schools in France, Poland, Portugal, Vietnam and Romania. Having completed her PGCE from the University of Nottingham, Lorraine has since been working as a KS1 and KS2 teacher in Porto, Portugal.

Creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving are some of the elements she includes in her lessons. As a teacher, she knows the importance of cultivating a welcoming and inclusive classroom where every child is supported, encouraged, and valued. She strives to establish the best learning environment possible for the children in her care and takes pride in making her classroom a welcoming and exciting learning space. She always has high expectations of the pupils in her care and encourages self-worth, manners and respect for others. Her favourite time of day is seeing the children’s eager faces first thing in the morning, excited to find out what they will be learning about that day.

In her free time, Lorraine likes to be creative and enjoys painting and cooking. Lorraine loves to keep active and enjoys jogging and crossfit after a busy day at school. Climbing and hiking are also on her list of holiday activities.
