Datin Harjit is a Malaysian and has been involved in education since 1987 where she began as a temporary teacher for a year in a public school to cover a teacher on maternity leave.
She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and her Master’s in Industrial & Labour Economics from West Virginia University, USA.
She lectured as a Senior Lecturer at Sunway College for 14 years on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Malaysian Economics, Economics of the Asia-Pacific Rim Societies and Socio-Economics under the twinning programme concept for an American university and a British university. She was elected as the president of the Sunway Academic Staff Association to help improve the welfare, working conditions and benefits of the teaching staff. Given that experience, she has become committed to look out for the welfare of the student community through school policies of safeguarding, pastoral care and early intervention in academic issues.
Her background also includes working at an international school in the Klang Valley to balance her family life. She taught economics extensively in the IBDP for 16 years at both HL and SL levels, ‘A’ Level and IGCSE Years 10 and 11. Datin Harjit stands steadfast in her philosophy that “every child can learn and will learn.”
Economics is what serves to make a nation strong, capable, powerful and resilient, and take it forward. “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X. “While it’s safe to say that no one knows what will happen tomorrow, having an education under your belt will open the door to more opportunities.”
Other than the academic side, she likes to relax and de-stress doing eco gardening, reading, cooking and baking. Her favourite sport is soccer and she never misses watching the World Cup.
