Calvin is from the UK, born in Scotland and raised in Plymouth. His family background includes a rich British, Indian, and Jamaican heritage. Calvin completed a BA (Honours) degree in History and Politics through the Open University and through his work in China, discovered his passion for teaching. Calvin particularly enjoys working with Elementary students because of their positive energy and the cross-curricular nature of the ES classroom.
Instilling ideas such as empathy, responsibility and respect into students is at the heart of Calvin’s teaching philosophy as he believes it will give them the foundation to better succeed throughout life. With a strong passion for getting young learners ready for the big step to secondary school, and ready for the wider world, he aims to teach his students far beyond the academic curriculum.
Away from the classroom, Calvin enjoys a wide variety of activities including fitness, football, cooking, movies, music, and spending time with his family. While he is new to St. Joseph’s, he has been living and working in Kuala Lumpur for nearly six years and looks forward to continuing to raise his twin sons in this friendly, fun, diverse city.
