Adrienn Szlapak

Adrienn Szlapak Position: EAL Leader

Adri is from Hungary and grew up in a predominantly monolingual environment until she started attending a dual language school where she learned English at the age of 15. Having been an EAL learner has contributed to her career choices and propelled her to pursue a BA and an MA in American Studies, specialising in Cognitive Linguistics. Earning a teaching certificate that allowed her to teach English as a Second Language during her college years let her gain rich experiences as a teacher in Hungary and internationally. As her passion for education grew, so has her dedication to her professional development. She gained a Cambridge DELTA as well as a PGCEi from the University of Nottingham, became an examiner for an international language exam and has presented at various international events and conferences.

Adri has held various teaching and educational management roles over the years, such as Academic Coordinator at the British Council and, most recently, Head of EAL at another international school in Malaysia. She also serves on the board of the Young Learners and Teenagers Special Interest Group of IATEFL as a member of the Publications team.

As a teacher, Adri is passionate about supporting every learner to reach their full potential and is committed to ensuring that all learners have equal access to education. Her vision is to create an inclusive and empowering environment where students can thrive academically, linguistically and culturally. She is happy to have found a school that shares the same values.

In her free time, Adri enjoys doing yoga, reading, traveling, cooking and sampling dishes in Malaysia’s great restaurants.
