SJIIM Shines at ISMC 2018

A group of students from SJIIM’s Elementary School recently participated in the International Singapore Maths Competition (ISMC) held at Sri KDU Schools. The ISMC had over 12,000 student competitors from 24 countries competing for individual and collective success and SJIIM was well represented with a team of 77 sitting for various tests.

The tests presented some real challenges but our students persevered and shined at the same time securing 3 Golds, 6 Silvers and 17 Bronzes which placed us as the 3rd overall school in Malaysia! Tjun Eu who was one of the Gold Medal winners said, “After I found out that I had won a Gold Medal, I felt surprised, shocked and extremely happy. This was because it was a challenging test. Knowing I have achieved in this test gives me motivation to continue pushing myself in my math learning.

This is an outstanding achievement for our first year in the competition and all 77 competitors represented the school tremendously well. SJIIM Elementary School Teacher and Event Coordinator for the ISMC, Mr Scott Higgins was equally elated with the students’ performance, “It was great to get such a large number of students participating in our first year. I am really proud of how the students did and feel they have established a good platform from which we can launch from in the coming years.

With the continual guidance of SJIIM’s dedicated teachers, the future of the ISMC and Singapore Maths at SJIIM looks bright. Ora et Labora!
