Being back in school has made a huge difference to students and teachers. In High School Art, motivation and engagement are rising.
Year 7: Completed their cardboard mandalas and started a new printmaking unit, investigating the work of New Zealand based Artist Michel Tuffery.
Year 8: Under the guidance of Ms Prado, the students continue with their digital design explorations. Most recently they have used their typography skills and incorporated them into yearbook cover designs.
Year 9: Let their imaginations run wild with Surrealist collages. They began by selecting imagery from magazines and newspapers in the automatism surrealist manner. Then they began to compose their imagery to create their own narratives, ensuring that they included 2 of 3 surrealist characteristics (Metamorphosis or Transformation, Exaggerated size and Distorted scale, and Dislocation). Work shown here from Lara Gan, Tjun Eu Lai, and Ethan Greiss.
Year 10: Student Reyi Lee began the term studying the natural form of an onion and has used it as an inspiration for printmaking, cardboard relief sculpture, and fashion design. Since returning to school she has been working on fashion illustration and has now begun construction of her design to form a paper fashion sculpture.
Congratulations to the IGCSE students who have ended the term with completion of their Component 2 Art exam. In January, Cambridge sent out 5 prompts.
1: On a shelf
2: Leaves, petals and roots
3: Getting ready
4: By the Road
5: Fractured.
The students chose the prompt that inspired them. They have been experimenting with media, concepts and compositions since then and even coming in on Saturdays to ensure they were ready. On Monday, 22nd and Tuesday, 23rd of March, they sat an 8-hour exam (split over the 2 days). We will share the photos of the wonderful artwork when we are officially allowed.
