Joel joined us in 2019 from Norwich, England, where he was Head of Maths in an inner-city academy. St Joseph’s is his first international school to which he brings a wealth of experience which includes being a member of the founding teaching team of a brand new free school where he was the subject leader for Maths. Joel has an honours degree in Business Statistics and a PGCE in Secondary Level Mathematics, both from the University of East Anglia. Joel’s particular educational interests are understanding more about how the mind works and how curriculum sequencing can be supported by current research into cognitive processes. Joel is also an accredited professional development leader through the National Centre of Excellent Teaching in Mathematics in England. In his spare time, Joel enjoys long-distance running as well as field hockey in which he plays, officiates and coaches. Joel is looking forward to travelling through South-East Asia as well as taking up badminton again.
