Bhavini is moving to Kuala Lumpur from Hampshire, England, to assume the role of Head of English at SJIIM. Prior to embarking on a career in teaching, Bhavini studied for her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in English at the University of Southampton – this formative experience as a student of English inspired her to pursue a future in education.
Over the past thirteen years, Bhavini has developed extensive knowledge of meaningful pedagogical approaches as a classroom practitioner, and a valuable understanding of subject leadership through previous roles as Head of English at two UK secondary schools. Alongside this position, she has also overseen the training and development of new teachers in the role of ECT Induction Tutor, held whole-school responsibility for assessment design across the curriculum, and served as a Staff Governor.
Bhavini is passionate about teaching English: she understands the power that literacy has to enhance lives and believes that a study of Literature equips students with the cultural capital to better access and navigate the world around them. She is excited to join the SJIIM community and to work with the English team to deliver an enriching and challenging curriculum which offers students a range of opportunities to experience reading, writing and oracy in diverse and varied forms.
In her spare time, Bhavini is a keen reader, baker, hiker and amateur artist – she is looking forward to furthering these pursuits against the lively and vibrant backdrop of Malaysia.
